About NatureCasting

Nature has always been telling us about the weather. We just need to learn how to listen.

For generations, people have looked to the natural world for clues about what the weather might bring. Birds flying low, bees returning to their hives, changes in the clouds, the behaviour of animals and the arrival of seasonal flowers have all helped people understand the world around them.

NatureCasting was created around a simple idea: what if we could bring those natural observations together with modern weather science to create a richer, more local picture of the weather and the changing seasons?

Who Are We?

We're a small group of volunteers who share a passion for nature, technology and the extraordinary world we live in.

We're fascinated by the sheer wonder and intelligence of nature. The way birds navigate thousands of miles, insects respond to changes in the atmosphere, plants anticipate the seasons and animals adapt to the world around them. There is so much happening right in front of us, and so much we still don't understand.

We believe that the more people notice, understand and appreciate the living world, the more they will want to protect it.

We're a not-for-profit initiative, built by volunteers, driven by curiosity and a shared belief that nature is worth understanding and protecting.

Everyone Can Be a Nature Observer

You don't need to be a scientist, own expensive equipment or know the names of every bird and flower to take part.

Perhaps you've noticed pine cones opening, ants becoming particularly active, the first blossom appearing on a tree or a sudden change in the behaviour of birds in your garden.
